When we care for our patients, we’re missing way more than “half” of the story…

Humans are WAY more microbial than they are “human”. For every human gene, there are >100 microbial genes in and on us. These microbes are far from being passive bystanders in our lives and in our health. They can impact our gut health - but they can do so much more - such as linking to our risk of developing heart attacks, our mood and even whether or not we respond to cancer therapies.

We, in the Bhatt lab, are committed to revolutionizing how we care for patients. Given the potential clinical power that lies in our microbiomes, we are charting out a path to leverage valuable microbiome data in real time to figure out:

  • What bacterial infection a cancer is likely to get - weeks before they start treatment

  • Who is at risk for Cdiff? And how can we prevent this?

  • How to decrease painful and challenging side effects of therapies.

  • And so much more…
